Aubrey has had a difficult year: having divorced her husband who also happens to still be her boss, living in the midst of New York but a diehard Boston Red Sox fan, and planning a museum show all the while being questioned at every turn. Planning a trip to Boston to watch her beloved Red Sox play the dreaded Yankees, she hopes that being in the presence of other Red Sox fans and the lively atmosphere will give her the pick me up she needs. Settling into a barstool to watch the game, things are looking up: the Red Sox are winning and a very handsome fellow fan is chatting the game away with her.
Gray has flown across the country to cheer on his Boston Red Sox. When he enters the bar, he is overwhelmed with the satisfaction of being in Boston, surrounded by fellow fans, and attracted to the redhead watching the game. Gray loves two things in his life other than his hotels and family: Red Sox and redheads. Gray is excited about the opportunity to have a night to remember since it seems maybe the Red Sox will actually win this game and he is now in the company of a beautiful woman that loves them as much as he does.
Both Gray and Aubrey are reminded that one should not celebrate until the win is certain when the Red Sox blow their lead and lose once again to their arch rivals, the New York Yankees.
Disappointed and angry, Gray needs to expend some energy and Aubrey wants to replace her miserable trip by ruffling the sheets on her hotel bed with her new friend. When the morning comes, they leave for home knowing they will never see one another again. Once again it would seem that their adventure isn't over, Aubrey lands a job painting a self-portrait for Moira Scott-Lowenby from Las Vegas. Temporary relocating into Moira's hotel, Aubrey is stunned to find Gray in the lobby. Gray is shocked to see Aubrey is his hotel and even more overwhelmed when he learns that she is also the painter his mother has hired. Will the two of them give it another go and try to replace last season's quick demise with a winning one this time around? Is it possible for Aubrey and Gray to score a grand slam instead of the homerun from last time?
Priscilla Darcy has written a beautiful love story mixed with a splash of humor, a little uncertainty, a couple of family crisis, an unknown element of suspense, and the all American pastime of baseball. Whether baseball is your favorite sport or not, this story will grip readers with the emotions and dedication both Aubrey and Gray have for it. This reader experienced the hope, disappointment, struggles, excitement, and sweet victory along with them leaving a new fond love for baseball as well as Aubrey and Gray. They are two characters that readers will love and cheer for. The passion that they find in one another's arms is tantalizing and beautiful. Twenty Hours in Boston is a tremendous story. I would highly recommend it to anyone that would listen. Priscilla Darcy has definitely scored a homerun with bases loaded with this one. 5 Red Sox caps out of 5.
