Allie has lived her life in the city with her foster parents. Her only link to her family is a journal from her mother that speaks of a different religion that surrounds service to the Lady. A mysterious woman approaches Allie and urges her to take her chosen place among her people, Allie decides to do just that. She is coming into her own and when she stands inside the sacred circle on Samhain she feels the magic coming to life inside her. All the creatures of the forest are there to watch the ceremony that will make Allie a Priestess and she is startled when two men show up only to be replaced by beautiful wolves. But all is not what it seems and Ally has much to learn if she is to take her place.
For the creatures are more than they appear. They are were, people with the magical ability to shift into their own unique were species. And the two wolves are the leaders of all were, Rafe and Tim, twins. They are the chosen mates for the new priestess and once they all come to terms with that there is much work to be done. Rafe and Tim will play a large part in Allie’s education teaching her the ways of the were and her place within that magical society. And they will also teach her the joys of having two such viral alphas as her lovers, catering to all her needs. Even those she didn't realize she had.
But there is an evil that seeks to destroy them all, especially the new priestess. The Venifucus want to destroy all the Priestesses of the Lady, the werecreatures and all other supernatural beings as well. To stop this, supernatural beings who have always kept to themselves guarding their existence from all others must now unite and stand together to face the greatest battle of their lives.
Lords of the Were is an incredible story filled with a plethora of secondary characters that add to the evolution of this story. Although the central story is the growth and budding relationship between Allie and her werewolf mates, Rafe and Tim, it is the underlying issues they all face that keep you engrossed as the story unfolds. With the introduction of each new character it adds another dimension to the story without taking away from the central characters. I find myself eager to read more, to learn about what is happening with the vampire Dante, and the fey cousins Betina and Duncan. The one problem I had was that Allie's eyes were described as "green as moss" in the beginning of the story and yet later when she first meets what remains of her family she is described as having her mother's "blue" eyes. Other than that tiny detail Lords of the Were was perfection and I would highly recommend this to be placed at the top of anyone's to be read list. Kudos to Ms. D'Arc on a story well-told and for leaving this reader hungry for more! 4.5 out of 5 Quills.
