The Ancient World

While most historical books center on more current history, I’ve noticed a trend toward ancient history, even within the romance genre.  So, this time around, I thought I’d provide some links on the ancient world.  Enjoy!

Ancient Classical History (http://ancienthistory.about.com/) Interesting list of Greek and Roman sites

Ancient Greece  (http://library.thinkquest.org/10805/greece.html?tqskip1=1&tqtime=1107) The Ancient Greeks, but also has links to Egypt and Rome.

Ancient History Links  (http://killeenroos.com/link/anchist.htm) I loved this site! Tons and tons of links covering just about any topic you’d need.

Ancient History Resources (http://www.historesearch.com/ancient.html) This is a cool site with alphabetical links to lots of resources, including the Druids--another “don’t miss” site for your research.

Ancient World Web (http://www.julen.net/ancient/)  Interesting site, with lots of in-depth links regarding daily life, myths & religions, etc., sorted by place and subject.

De Imperatoribus Romanis: An Online Encyclopedia of Roman Emperors (http://www.roman-emperors.org/) This site covers not only the Roman emperors, but also important Roman battles.

Mr. Donn’s Ancient History Page  (http://members.aol.com/donnandlee/) Geared as an educational site, but has lots of links regarding ancient Early Man, Mayans & Aztecs, etc. You can get lost here…in a good way.

MesopotamianHistory (http://www.questia.com/Index.jsp?CRID=mesopotamia&OFFID=se1)

In-depth listing of historical links.

The Roman Army (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Oracle/6622/) Gary Brueggeman’s award-winning site, with facts all about the legion.

The Romans (http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/romans/) Designed for students, and an informative, educational page on Roman history provided by BBC.

Tons! of history links from 1000 to 1900. (http://www.inficad.com/~jacreding/links/hist.html ) From one of my favorite authors…lots of links.

Univ. of Colorado Ancient History Links (http://web.uccs.edu/~history/index/ancient.html#europages)  Includes links for General Sources, Ancient Greece, Art, Archaeology & The Classics,
Egypt & Mesopotamia, The Roman Empire, European and other history links, and even some American history links.

Women’s History - About.com  (http://womenshistory.about.com/cs/ancient/). Links regarding women’s status in ancient history, the goddesses of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, etc.

Yahoo’s Ancient Links  (http://dir.yahoo.com/Arts/Humanities/History/By_Time_Period/Ancient_History/)  Lots of links here.

The links I’ve listed above are just a start.  As always, if you’re doing research on a specific civilization or era, try doing a “Google.com” search on that topic.  For instance, “Women’s History Ancient” would bring up Women’s History from the About.com site, which has multiple links regarding women’s status in ancient history, the goddesses of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, etc.

Have fun surfing!
